Edge Optical Link

Today’s passenger buses and trains are equipped with multiple onboard subsystems such as video surveillance, passenger information, multimedia, and automatic passenger counting, among others. They serve to enhance the passenger experience, comfort, and safety. These subsystems accumulate more than 100GB of data each day that cannot be entirely offloaded with current technologies.

In A Blink’s Edge Optical Mobile Router enables the offload of 100% of the daily accumulated on-board data using its optical wireless communication technology. The high-speed connectivity is automatically established between the vehicle and the optical access point, usually installed at the maintenance depot or at stations along the route. The communication is a full duplex, allowing for firmware updates for onboard equipment, updates of the media content, and passenger information while data is offloaded to the control center.

Because the optical transmission uses invisible light, the optical wireless communication system is a highly secured, radio-wave-free network where data cannot be detected, intercepted, or targeted by attackers. In addition, the optical channel is encrypted

Key Features

♦ Ultra high-speed Edge Router with 8Gbps aggregate routing capacity.
♦ Virtual Fibre Optics (VFOTM) optical wireless communication technology providing Vehicle-toInfrastructure speeds up to 1.5Gbps. Upload surveillance video and vehicle data in seconds.
♦ AI ready and Edge Computing ready facilitates the deployment of AI-based solutions.
♦ Cyber secure communication compared to conventional RF wireless technologies. Cannot be detected or targeted.
♦ Easy setup. Ideal and cost-effective solution for new installations or upgrading installations to high-bandwidth capability. No radio frequencies, no preinstall survey, or RF interference mapping is required.
♦ 4G/LTE/LTE-A Pro and 5G cellular technology with dual-SIM support for real-time transmissions.
♦ GPS interface provides geo-fencing and tracking information.
♦ Certified automotive and rail versions ensuring reliable operation under tough environmental conditions.
